The Manly Lines by Ken McCarthy, ed. David Keenan

By two highly respected widely read tramway historians, this is the fascinating but ultimately sad story of the isolated Manly system, whose depot still stands on the corner of Pittwater Road and Balgowlah Road, as a Harris Farm store.

Deeply researched, the full history from steam to electric of the Manly tramways which sadly closed in 1939 essentially due to lack of patronage.  Some intriguing relics remain to this day of the isolated system, which this book will enable you to explore.

Covers the freight line, Harbord Narrabeen The Spit, the tram-only ferry.

THE SOUTH-EASTERN LINES of the Sydney Tramway System by David Keenan

Meticulously researched and lavishly illustrated with over 60 unique photos. many maps

The title refers to tram routes reaching out from the city to the Eastern seaboard suburbs as far south as La Perouse and inland west to Alexandria. They were essentially operated from the South Dowling Street depot, the largest in Sydney and last to close in 1961.  The cover photo shows  Randwick after every race meeting. Hundreds of trams lined up to take '000s of punters to Central or Circular Quay. The crowd was cleared in an hour.
